Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. History

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded by twenty-two dynamic women on the campus of Howard University, January 13, 1913.

Their mission was to establish an organization that would promote academic achievement and provide the community with assistance to those in need. Delta was founded on three basic principles; sisterhood, scholarship, and public service.

Our Founders came together to form a sisterhood based on Christian principles that worked to extend the social role of a sorority into an organization whose goal was to improve the social, political, and economic climate of society. These ideas have withstood the tests of time and are exemplified through the many programs Delta sponsors. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization.
